Best Dirt Bike Racks & Tow-Bar Carriers for Australian Utes

Hitch carriers vs tray mounts, what weight rating to look for, and how to secure your bike properly for the trip to the trail.

Best Dirt Bike Racks & Tow-Bar Carriers for Australian Utes

Getting your electric dirt bike to the trail or track usually means one of two setups: a hitch-mounted carrier on your tow bar, or loading it directly into a ute tray or trailer. Both work well — which one suits you depends on your vehicle, how often you're transporting, and whether you're carrying just one bike or several.

Hitch-Mounted Carriers

A 2-inch hitch bike carrier bolts onto your tow bar receiver and lets you load a bike without lifting it into a tray — genuinely useful for a single rider or lighter electric models, since most e-dirt bikes weigh less than a comparable petrol machine. Look for a weight rating comfortably above your bike's actual weight (check the spec sheet — most of our range sits between 40kg and 100kg) and a ramp or low loading angle to keep the lift manageable.

Tray & Trailer Loading

For multiple bikes, heavier models, or if you already tow a trailer, loading directly into a ute tray or onto a trailer deck is often simpler and more secure — just make sure your tie-down setup is rated for the load and won't damage bodywork or suspension components in transit.

Securing the Load Properly

Whichever method you use, soft-loop tie-down straps (not hard hooks, which can damage frame or fork components) rated for the bike's weight are essential, front and rear, at proper angles to stop the bike shifting under braking. See our Transport & Hitch Carriers range for hitch carriers, tie-down straps and weatherproof covers.

Protecting Your Bike in Transit

A weatherproof cover is worth adding if you're driving any distance, especially on dusty roads or in rain — it protects paint, graphics and electronics from road grime during transport.
