Hydration Packs for Dirt Bike Riding: What to Look For
Capacity, fit and protection features that matter in a dirt bike hydration pack, especially for hot Australian riding.

A hydration pack lets you drink on the move without stopping — genuinely important for longer rides in Australian heat, where dehydration creeps up faster than most riders expect and directly affects concentration and reaction time. Here's what actually matters when choosing one.
Water Capacity
Most dirt bike hydration packs carry 1.5-3 litres. For rides under an hour in mild conditions, 1.5-2L is plenty. For long summer rides, remote riding, or if you sweat heavily, 3L is worth the extra bulk. Our Hydration Pack (2L) covers most typical ride lengths.
Fit & Stability
A hydration pack needs to sit close and stable on your back so it doesn't shift under braking, over jumps or in ruts. Look for a proper chest and (ideally) waist strap, not just shoulder straps. It should be snug enough that you forget it's there.
Back Protection
Some hydration packs include an integrated back protector or armour pocket — a useful two-in-one if you're not already wearing separate back protection. See our body armour guide for how back protection fits into your overall setup.
Storage
A small amount of storage for a phone, basic tools, a tube and tyre levers is useful on longer or remote rides — enough to handle a trailside puncture without carrying a separate pack.
Hose & Bite Valve
A hose routed over your preferred shoulder with a bite valve you can operate one-handed and hands-free is the point of the whole thing — check the hose is long enough to reach your mouth comfortably in a riding position.
