Signs Your Dirt Bike Battery Needs Replacing

Every lithium battery loses some capacity over its life — that's normal chemistry, not a defect. The question is knowing when reduced range is genuine wear-out rather than terrain, temperature, rider weight or riding style. Here's what to look for.

Noticeably Shorter Range on the Same Ride

The clearest sign is a consistent, significant drop in range on a route you ride regularly, in similar conditions. Occasional shorter range on a hot day, into a headwind, or after a harder-than-usual session is normal. A permanent 20-30%+ reduction across many rides is not.

Faster Voltage Drop Under Load

If the bike feels strong at full charge but power falls off much sooner than it used to — losing top-end or hill-climbing ability at what used to be a comfortable state of charge — the pack may be losing its ability to hold voltage under load.

The Battery Won't Reach Full Charge

If the charger cycles to "complete" much faster than it used to, or the displayed charge level never reaches 100%, the usable capacity has dropped.

Physical Warning Signs

Any visible swelling, damage, unusual heat during charging or discharging, or a burning smell means stop using the pack immediately and contact us — these are safety issues, not just capacity issues.

What to Do

First, rule out the simple causes: check tyre pressures, confirm you're comparing like-for-like conditions, and try a full charge cycle.
